If you rent out property in Ireland, fire safety is now a condition of doing business. From 1 December 2026 the National Short-Term Letting Register opens, and every host offering stays of 21 nights or less must be registered by 31 December 2026 to keep advertising online. Registration requires a legal self-declaration that your property meets all building and fire safety obligations, and booking platforms must delist properties without a registration number.

Separately, the Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations require every rented property in a multi-unit building, whether an apartment, flat, bedsit or divided house, to display a diagrammatic fire evacuation plan on the back of the main entrance door. A written paragraph of instructions is not enough. The plan must show a clear floor plan with primary and secondary escape routes, the location of fire safety equipment and alarm call points, and step by step emergency instructions including how to call the fire brigade on 999 or 112.
